Ex-School Staffer Charged With Sexual Abuse Of Child: Court Docs

A former LI school bus driver and janitor was arrested Sunday and charged with sexual conduct against a child, court officials say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A former bus driver and janitor for the Southold school district was arrested Sunday on a warrant out of Suffolk County for charges including felony sexual conduct against a child, police said.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley, Joseph Flythe, 40, was arrested on Sunday at 1:11 p.m. at the Vineyard View apartment complex in Greenport; he was arrested on a Suffolk County Police Department warrant for a grand jury indictment warrant, Flatley said.

Court records indicate that Flythe was charged with first-degree sex conduct against a child, a felony; he was also charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child, and with sexual abuse toward a child, court records indicate.

On Monday, a representative for School Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mauro told Patch that Flythe has not been employed by the Southold School district for some time.

"We have no knowledge of or comment on his current status," she said.
