Fire Breaks Out In Basement Of North Fork Home

The incident does not appear to be criminal in nature, police say.

LAUREL, NY — A fire broke out in the basement of a Laurel home Monday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 7:16 p.m. at a home on Bray Ave. Mattituck Fire Department responded and extinguished the basement fire; the Suffolk County arson squad also responded, police said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined; an investigation is ongoing but the fire appears to be non-criminal in nature, police said.
