Fire Rips Through Greenport Shipyard

The blaze broke out just before 8 p.m. in Greenport Thursday night.

GREENPORT, NY — A fire ripped through the shipyard on Carpenter Street in Greenport Thursday night.

According to Southold Town Police, the fire broke out at 7:55 p.m. The blaze could be seen behind the shops on Main Street in the village.

Greenport Village Mayor George Hubbard said the blaze was sparked by a pile of brush and debris on the side of the railways that caught fire. No injuries were reported and no boats or businesses were damaged, Hubbard said.
