No injuries were reported, officials say.

MATTITUCK, NY — Firefighters knocked down a chimney fire in Mattituck Tuesday, officials said.
According to the Mattituck Fire Department, the fire broke out at around 8:30 p.m. at a home on Route 25, during a time when the North Fork was experiencing heavy winds and some snow.
Firefighters arrived and found flames and embers coming from the top of the chimney, the MFD said.

MFD Second Asst. Chief Steve Ficner was first on scene and said there was a light smoke condition inside — and everyone was out of the house, officials said. Chief James Cox assumed command and was assisted by both First Asst. Chief Bobby Haas and Ficner, the MFD said.
Engine 3’s crew did a quick check of the house with a thermal imaging camera to confirm the fire was isolated to the chimney and did not extend into the house, the MFD said.

"Within minutes, Ladder 8 arrived on-scene and set up their aerial ladder to the roof, setting up exhaust fans inside to clear the smoke in the residence," the MFD said.
Fire police had the westbound lane of route 25 shut down for about an hour while crews were operating, the MFD said.
No injuries were reported.
