Flood Watch In Effect Across Long Island Sunday: NWS

LONG ISLAND, NY — A flood watch is in effect for Sunday morning and afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the NWS, showers with heavy downpours and a few thunderstorms are expected to begin Sunday morning and last until midday, possibly leading to flooding.

Average rainfall amounts are forecast to range from 1.5 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts of 5 to 7 inches possible, the NWS said. Peak hourly rates could reach 2 to 2.5 inches, the NWS said.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the NWS said.

Residents should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings; those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop, the NWS said.
