Fun For All As Dogs Compete At First Dock Diving Competition On North Fork

The first-ever dock diving event on the North Fork will be held on May 20 and 21.

GREENPORT, NY — The North Fork will be going to the dogs as the first-ever dock diving pet expo is planned, with some high-flying, splashing action expected to delight across the board.

The event will be held at Greenport Harbor Brewing Company’s location in Peconic on Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21. Harbor Pet and Greenport Harbor Brewing Company have joined forces to bring DockDogs® to the North Fork by co-hosting the 1st Annual North Fork Dock Diving pet expo and fundraiser.

The event will benefit the North Fork Welfare Animal League, the American Legion's Burton Potter Post 185, and Canine Companions for Independence.

In addition to watching the dogs compete, the event will feature pet vendors, pet experts — and brews, too.

Along with local and national vendors including Weruva pet food and Greenport Jerky Company, the event will feature local dog trainers, adoptable dogs from NFWAL, and representatives from CCI to explain how to get involved.

Spectators can purchase food and brews from the Greenport Harbor Brewing Company.

Featured dogs at the event include Tango, from Long Island, who averages a 22’ jump into the pool and travels the country to compete at many DockDog events, a release said.

His owner, Chris Geymayr of West Babylon, said this is Tango's second season participating; Tango is an American pit bull terrier rescued as a puppy.

Competitions will take place throughout the day; dog owners who want to have their pets compete can register in advance by clicking here, or on the day of the event. Fees to try out or compete start at $27 per team, dog and handler, for each competition.

The pet friendly event is free for spectators.

“We wanted this event to benefit local organizations that mean a lot to us here on the North Fork and Long Island. Being able to give back to NFWAL, CCI and Burton Potter Post who do so much for the animals and people in our community is something we are very passionate about,” said Kimberly Loper, owner of Harbor Pet in Greenport.

“We are excited to bring the North Fork’s first dock diving event, pet expo and fundraiser to our brewery. Our event will bring in businesses from all around the area, help support local and island-wide non-profit organizations and we'll get to see dogs fly through the air and splash in the pool,” said Rich Vandenburgh, co-founder of Greenport Harbor Brewing Company.
