Grateful Owner Of Seriously Injured Dog: 'My Baby Is Fighting'

Kaitlyn McElroy is thanking the sea of angels who are donating funds to pay for her dog's desperately needed emergency medical costs.

SHELTER ISLAND HEIGHTS, NY — A local woman pleading for help for her dog, who was seriously hurt Saturday, said the sweet pup is still holding on.

"Maci Lynn is still in critical condition being prepped right now for a blood transfusion. My baby is fighting! She is resilient. And has a rally of support behind her thanks to all of you. I'm so deeply humbled. Please continue to pray, send positive vibes and thoughts to Maci," Kaitlin McElroy of Shelter Island Heights wrote Sunday on her GoFundMe page, "Help For Maci Lynn", which has raised $5,465 of its $8.500 goal so far.

On Monday, she added, "After receiving surgery Saturday morning, Maci was in the ICU and remains there today. Her red blood cell count was very low causing her to have to go through a blood transfusion. The blood transfusion went smoothly but her red blood cell count still remains low. However, she is in positive spirits this morning and the blood in her chest tube has significantly decreased, which is amazing. She is pulling through this freak accident, something the doctors have told us is a true miracle.

"Because of you all we were able to start the surgery and will be able to pay a portion of her medical bill. We can't say how thankful we are for the community coming together for us in our time of need. Financially, this unexpected expense will have a huge impact on us and we truly are so very grateful for your help. We plan to pay all of your kindness forward in a way that will help other animals in need."

The funds are desperately needed to pay for Maci Lynn's emergency medical expenses, McElroy said.

"Maci was impaled by a stick early this morning, going straight through her body. Her medical expenses need to be paid upfront and she is in need of emergency surgery," McElroy wrote. "She is our baby girl, whom we love with all of our heart. She is a vibrant and beautiful baby, full of so much life and love. We are sincerely appreciative of whatever you can donate to help save Maci Lynn."
