GREENPORT, NY — Despite cold temps and blustery winds, an annual tradition warmed hearts on the North Fork as the annual Greenport Washington's Birthday Parade kicked off on Saturday, bringing fire departments from across Long Island to the village.

The parade is a longtime tradition that draws firefighters, shiny firetrucks and festive celebrants from near and far for the event, one of the oldest and largest parades on Long Island.

With sirens sounding, horns and bells ringing, and bagpipes delighting onlookers, the parade, organized by the Greenport Fire Department, wended its way along Front Street before ending with hot dogs and clam chowder at the firehouse, a treasured finale to the day.
