Greenport Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting Draws Crowd: Photos

Check out the photos and videos here of a wonderful night of holiday fun in Greenport, with a parade of firetrucks and Santa, too.

GREENPORT, NY — Greenport was alive with holiday spirit Saturday night as hundreds flocked to the village for the lighting of the Christmas tree and a Parade of Lights that captivated young and old.

The decorated firetrucks, covered with colorful lights and with sirens blazing, headed down Main and Front Streets toward Mitchell Park. Prior to the tree lighting, students from Greenport Schools delighted guests with holiday songs and Greenport Village Mayor George Hubbard announced the winners of the holiday poster contest.

After the tree was lit, Santa and Mrs. Claus will gave gifts to the kids and were available for photos.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, the 6th annual "Shellabration," was scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. a favorite event including a restaurant walk featuring dishes such as clams, oysters, and scallops by top local chefs along with local wines and ales. $5 small plates featuring local shellfish will be paired with $3 pours of local wine and beer. All proceeds from the sale of wristbands will directly support Cornell Coooperative Extension's Back to the Bays Initiative and the SPAT program. For tickets and additional information, click here.
