Greenport Man Arrested After Being Found Asleep And Intoxicated In Running Vehicle; Striking Officer: PD

GREENPORT, NY — A Greenport man was arrested after driving while intoxicated, falling asleep in a running vehicle — and punching a police officer in the face, authorities said.

According to Southold Town police, Andres Garcia-Moran, 33, was arrested on March 1 on Linnet Street in Greenport and charged with driving while intoxicated and second-degree harassment, police said.

A caller reported a man asleep in a running vehicle in the roadway; Garcia-Moran was found asleep in the driver's seat with the engine running and the keys in the ignition, police said.

Upon interview, Garcia-Moran became combative and refused to leave the vehicle, then striking the officer on the right side of the face with a closed fist, police said.

He was placed under arrest, charged, and taken to Southold Town police headquarters to await arraignment, police said.
