Greenport Man Charged With Selling Cocaine On Shelter Island: Cops

The man was caught with cocaine and Oxycodone and charged with intent to sell, police say; bail was set at $23,000.

SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A Greenport man was arrested after he was caught selling cocaine on Shelter Island, police said.

According to Shelter Island Police, Shawn Ike Smiley, 46, was arrested on Wednesday at 9:33 p.m. on Shelter Island and charged with two counts of third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, cocaine, one count of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, intent to sell, cocaine, and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Oxycodone.

The Shelter Island Town Police Department, in conjunction with New York State Police, Narcotics Enforcement Unit, conducted an investigation into illegal sales of controlled substances, namely cocaine, at a business establishment on Shelter Island, police said.

Smiley was arrested as a result of that investigation, police said.

He was arraigned at Shelter Island Justice Court and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $23,000 bail, police said.
