Happy Ending: Missing Dog, Marty, Found Safe On North Fork

SOUTHOLD, NY — It was the happiest of endings in Southold as a missing dog, Marty, was found safe.
"Marty is home!" his delighted owner said, adding that Marty was spotted by some very observant neighbors at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
His owner thanked all the neighbors in Southold's Founders Landing community. "We are truly blessed to be living with such caring and compassionate people," he said. "We will be thinking of them and smiling with every poster we rip down later today!"

Marty, a 3-year old white poodle mix, went missing Monday, running loose and dragging his flexi-leash on Hobart Road heading toward the beach; he was thought to have run down to the town creek area.
His disappearance sparked deep concern and a frantic search.

"Marty is a rescue dog so he is very skittish," his owner said Tuesday. "He tends to trust dogs much more than people. We are afraid that, because he was running and he had his leash attached to him, he is trapped in brush somewhere."
