Heartfelt Farewell To A 65-Year Southold Fire Department Hero
It was a heartfelt fare thee well as members of the Southold Fire Dept. lined a bridge to say good-bye to a 65-year hero, moving to Florida.
SOUTHOLD, NY — Members of the Southold Fire Department gathered at Goose Creek Bridge Saturday morning to bid a heartfelt and emotional farewell to Bob Mallgraf and his wife Phyllis well as they left Southold to move to their new home in Florida.
Mallgraf is a 65-year member of Protection Engine Company as well as a World War II veteran who survived the attack while onboard the USS Franklin, said Southold Fire Department members.
Included in the farewell gathering was fire apparatus as well as the fire department's large flag.

"We are honored and privileged to have him in the department, and we thank him for his service," said fire department members.
