As Heat Intensifies, Cooling Center Opens In Peconic

Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell urges residents to take precautions in light of "oppressive" heat enveloping the area.

PECONIC, NY — As a heat wave blankets the region, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell is urging to take precautions in light of the "oppressive" temperatures gripping the area.

To that end, on Friday, the Southold Recreation Center, located at 970 Peconic Lane, will be open until 8 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday at 9 a.m. through 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m. for anyone seeking respite from the heat and humidity.
