Heavy Rain, Thunderstorm Causes Problems on the North Fork

The severe weather caused flooding, downed wires and power outages all across the area.

The heavy rain and thunderstorms on Thursday caused several problems for North Fork residents including flooding, downed wires and power outages.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood advisory for the area until 3:45 p.m.

The heavy rain, which was too much for the drains to handle at one time, caused flooding in several areas including Depot Lane in Cutchogue, according to a report in SoutholdLocal.

In addition, Route 25 by Boisseau Avenue in Southold was closed down due to downed wires and a traffic light was reportedly not working on Cox Lane and Route 48 in Cutchogue, according to the report.

Over 900 customers reported power outages in both Cutchogue and Peconic as of Thursday afternoon, according to the PSEG outage map, but power is expected to be completely restored by 6 p.m.
