Hero Cross Sound Ferry Employees Rescue 10-Year-Old Boy And 2 Who Tried To Save Him From Sound
Miracle in Orient: A team of angels saved a little boy swept away in the Sound —and the lives of his two rescuers, too.

ORIENT POINT, NY — Angels came together to save the life of a little boy caught in the current of the Long Island Sound and the men who tried to rescue him Friday — and two brave Cross Sound Ferry employees emerged heroes, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the rescue took place at 3:17 p.m. at the Cross Sound Ferry terminal in Orient Point; a 10-year-old bou was swimming in the Long Island Sound when the current pulled him away from his father Jordan Stern, 45, of Brooklyn.
Stern and a good Samaritan Hassan Hamza, 65, of West Babylon, frantically rushed into the water to rescue him — only to also become caught in the current, police said.

Crew members of Cross Sound Ferry Mary Ellen heard the incident on their marine radio while docked at the ferry terminal in Orient, and sent mate William Stanley, 26, of New London, Conn., and deli clerk Kalol Wloblawska, 28, of Orient on a rescue boat from the ferry; they rescued all three from the water, police said.
"Our crew acted swiftly and expeditiously. Due to their response they were able to rescue those who were in distress. We salute our crew for their valiant efforts today," said Stanley Mickus, CSF marketing director.
