Holiday Spirit Shines At Greenport Parade Of Lights

GREENPORT, NY — It was a magical kickoff to the holiday season in Greenport Saturday with a Parade of Lights and a village Christmas tree lighting delighting the huge crowd that turned out for the festivities.

After watching a dazzling display of decked out Greenport Fire Department firetrucks make their way, sirens blaring, down Front Street, the crowd gathered in Mitchell Park for carols sung by both Greenport High School and Elementary School students.

Next, winners of an annual school poster contest joined with Greenport Village Mayor George Hubbard for a countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree — and delighted children waited eagerly for photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
