Hungry Crowd At Southold Fire Department Steak Night: Photos
Despite the heartbreaking loss of two devoted members over the past week, the fire department carried on — with tradition and love.
SOUTHOLD, NY — The words echoed throughout the firehouse Saturday night during the Southold Fire Department's Steak Night fundraiser: "It hasn't been an easy week."
It was, indeed, a heartbreakingly painful week for devoted Southold firefighters who lost two of their own recently, both H. William "Bill" Sawicki of Southold, Southold Town Police Department Lieutenant and former Southold Town Fire Department Chief and Commissioner; and longtime Southold Fire Department member Renee Carragher-Phelps.
But despite the heavy veil of sadness, fire department members turned out in force to ensure Steak Night was a success — their dedication, a testament to the traditions, values, and deep bonds of community and friendship that sustain, even during the darkest of hours.
