IGA Cashier Nabbed In Underage Drinking Enforcement Sweep: Police

SOUTHOLD, NY — An IGA clerk was caught selling alcohol to a minor in a state police crackdown Wednesday, police said.

According to New York State Police, officers from the NYS Barracks in Riverside conducted an underage drinking enforcement operation in Southold Town.

Christopher J. Russ, 19, a cashier at the IGA supermarket on Main Road in Southold, was arrested and charged with first degree unlawfully dealing with a child and prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage, police said.

The IGA was the only retail establishment cited for selling alcoholic beverages to an undercover state police officer in the sweep, police said.

Also checked and found to be in compliance, police said, were:

1.) 7-Eleven on Main Road in Southold.

2.) Village Liquor Store on Main Road in Southold.

3.) Royal Mini Mart on Main Road in Southold.

4.) Citgo Quick Mart on Main Road in Cutchogue.

5.) Peconic Liquors on Main Road in Cutchogue.

6.) Valero Food Mart on Main Road in Cutchogue.

7.) 7-Eleven on Main Road in Cutchogue.

8.) Okan Grocery/BP on Main Road in Mattituck.

9.) J. Shields Fine Wines & Spirits on Main Road in Mattituck.

10.) Handy Pantry on Main Road in Mattituck.

11.) La Tienda on Main Road in Mattituck.
