Intoxicated Man Throws Chair, Lunges At Nurse At Hospital: Cops

He was verbally abusive before breaking a chair and lunging at a nurse, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — An intoxicated man was arrested after he threw a chair and lunged at a nurse at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, police said.

James Martinez, 34, of Louisville, KY, was arrested on Dec. 23 at 7:19 p.m. at ELIH and charged with third degree menacing, second degree harassment/physical contact, and criminal mischief, intent to damage property, Southold Town Police said.

Martinez entered the hospital in an intoxicated condition and was verbally abusive toward the staff; he threw a wooden chair at a nurse in the emergency room, police said. Then, he picked up a piece of the broken chair and lunged at the nurse, causing her to fear for her safety, police said.

Martinez was arrested and transported to Southold Town Police headquarters, where he was processed and held for arraignment at Southold Town Justice Court, police said.
