Kait's Angels 'Stuff A Trailer', Spread Holiday Love

"We, as a community, are stuffing the Kait's Angels trailer for the less fortunate families of the North Fork." Don't miss the fun Thursday!

MATTITUCK, NY — Kait's Angels, an organization created in memory of Mattituck's Kaitlyn Doorhy, who lost her life tragically at 20 while away at college, spreads its caring wings all year long, giving back to those in the community who need a helping hand.

But now Kait's Angels are bringing their huge hearts and holiday spirit to the Christmas season — stuffing the giant Kait's Angels trailer to the brim to help the needy of the North Fork find joy at the most magical time of the year.

On Thursday, a "Stuff the Trailer" event will take place at East on Main, located at 10650 in Mattituck, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; the community is invited to attend and help. The event will include entertainment, giveaways, and "the most giving group of people," Darla Doorhy, Kait's mother, said.

Donations are accepted through Thursday; drop offs are accepted inside East on Main.

For weeks, the community has been donating unwrapped toys, gift, gas, and restaurant cards, socks, underwear, toothpaste and brushes, non-perishable food, monetary donations and new shirts, shoes, and jackets for both kids and adults.

Even children are learning the important lesson of giving back: Just this week, fourth grade students in Tanya Leondari's fourth grade class at St. John Paul II Regional School in Riverhead donated a truckload of toys and clothes to Kait's Angels.

All donated items will be delivered Thursday night to East on Main, where "We, as a community, are stuffing the Kait’s Angel trailer for the less fortunate families of the North Fork," Doorhy said.

And that's not all: Kait's Angels has other events scheduled in the coming days, with all funds garnered to help local families struggling through some of their darkest hours.

On Friday, at Southold High School Auditorium at 6:30 p.m., the Inspire Dance Centre will present its "Winter Charity Showcase," a benefit concert with proceeds to benefit Kait's Angels.

And at 8:25 p.m. on December 28, at CJ's American Grill in the Mattituck Shopping Plaza, Kait's Angels will be picking the winning ticket for the organization's $6,500 dinner raffle. Tickets cost $25 to win a four-course, farm-to-table dinner for 20, prepared by a private chef at Pellegrini Vineyard.

"This North Fork experience includes a customized menu prepared and served by private Chris Richards of East End events and CJ's American Bar & Grill and a barrel wine tasting at one of Long Island's most prestigious vineyards, Pellegrini Vineyard," organizers said.

The winning ticket holder need not be present on Dec. 28 to win. The prize is valued at $6,500.

The dinner will take place on Feb. 28, 2020.
