LI Man Charged With DWI After Car Plunges Into Water: Police

He was released on his own recognizance, police say.

SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A Shelter Island man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle plunged into the water Sunday night, police said.

According to Shelter Island Police, Neal Segal, 51, was driving at 11:46 p.m. when his vehicle went off the road and into the water near S Menantic Road. Segal was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, DWI, and moving from lane unsafely, police said.

He was taken to police headquarters for processing and held overnight for arraignment at the Shelter Island Justice Court, police said.
