LI Man Stole More Than $20K In Proceeds From Occupied Home: PD
The investigation into the Shelter Island burglary spanned more than 11 months, police say.
SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A Greenport man was arrested after he stole more than $20,000 in proceeds from a Shelter Island home in January, police said.
According to Shelter Island police, Oscar Sanchez Mendoza, 48, was arrested on Wednesday at 9:04 a.m. after an investigation into a report of a burglary at the occupied Shelter Island residence.
Sanchez Mendoza was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and third-degree grand larceny, a felony, police said.

The investigation, which spanned more than 11 months, included assistance from the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, Suffolk County police, and the U.S. Secret Service, and included the execution of several search warrants and grand jury subpoenas, police said.
Sanchez Mendoza was held overnight for arraignment at Shelter Island Justice Court, where he was released on supervised release with the probation department and directed to return at a later date, police said. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, police said.
