One of the most beloved fall activities is back on Long Island. Here's where to head with your family for a fun-filled day of apple-picking.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Picking apples in orchards bursting with color and fresh air is one of the most beloved fall activities on Long Island. The smell of pies baking and the taste of apple fritters are the things memories are made of.

So you won't miss a minute of the fun, Patch has put together a comprehensive list of where to go for U-pick orchards. Remember to call ahead or check the orchard's website to clarify hours of operation or to check for the availability of apples and other produce.

Hank's PumpkinTown

  • 240 Montauk Highway in Water Mill.
  • Apple picking is ongoing at Hank's Pumpkin Town through Halloween on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on Columbus Day Monday. Additional information on pricing and apple varieties available can be found here and on Facebook here.

Harbes Family Farm Orchard

  • Harbes Farm offers apple picking on Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through October.

  • Pick your own apples at Lewin Farms is available daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through October. Call 631-929-4327 prior to making your trip to make sure Pick Your Own apples are available.

Milk Pail U-Pick Farm

  • 50 Horsemill Lane in Water Mill
  • Milk Pail Farmstand's apple picking season runs through October. The farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays, weather permitting. For more information and varieties available, click here or call 631-537-2565.

Seven Ponds Orchard

  • Open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Wickham's Fruit Farm

  • 28700 Route 25 in Cutchogue
  • Farmstand open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays. U-Pick daily 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; wagon rides on Saturday only. Closed Sundays.

  • U-pick is open on weekends now and during the fall season from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through the end of October.
