Man Charged With Attempted Rape, Assault: Police

He assaulted her numerous times, leading to injuries and a 911 call for help, police say.

SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A Shelter Island man was arrested after he tried to rape a female and assaulted her numerous times, police said.

According to Shelter Island police, Carlos Geovanny Orozco-Rodriguez, 19, was arrested on Sunday at 2:15 a.m. on Shelter Island and charged with first-degree attempted rape, second-degree assault, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, namely cocaine.

He was arrested after a 911 call for help, police said.

Geovanny forcefully attempted to have sexual intercourse with a female and assaulted her numerous times, resulting in physical injury, police said.

He was located, arrested, held overnight and arraigned in Shelter Island Justice Court before he was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond, police said.

An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, police said.
