Man Charged With BWI After Speeding With 5 Aboard Vessel: Cops

Five people were onboard the speeding vessel in the no wake zone, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — A boater was charged after he was caught speeding with five aboard his vessel in Greenport, police said.

According to Southold Town Police Thomas G. Marr, 55, of Port Jefferson, was arrested on Saturday at 6:20 p.m. in Greenport and charged with reckless operation/speed in no-wake zone; boating while intoxicated; and boating while intoxicated with BAC over .08 percent.

While on patrol a Southold Town Police bay constable observed a boat speeding through a no wake zone; the officer stopped the 22' Cobia with five people onboard for the violation and, while speaking to the operator, the officer smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage and placed the boat in a side tow, bringing them into Mitchell Park Marina, police said.

After further investigation, Marr was found to be intoxicated and arrested, police said.
