Man Charged With DWI After 4-Car Crash In Cutchogue: Police

The Calverton man is facing a felony DWI charge after having a previous conviction within 10 years, police say.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a four-car crash in Cutchogue Sunday that resulted in multiple injuries, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place at 6:04 p.m. on Route 25 in Cutchogue. Adam Chrzanowski, 41, of Calverton, was arrested and charged with felony DWI, previous conviction in 10 years, and refusal to take a breath test, police said.

Police said Chrzanowski was heading east on Route 25 when he crossed over the double yellow line in an attempt to pass a vehicle, which he sideswiped; that vehicle then spun around and hit a third vehicle, authorities said.

Next, Chrzanowski's vehicle spun around and crashed head-on into the third vehicle, while the second car spun around and hit the driver's side of the third vehicle, police said.

Meanwhile, the driver of a fourth vehicle was heading west and trying to avoid the crash when she swerved into the eastbound lane and collided with an unknown object or vehicle when heading back into the westbound lane, police said.
