Man Charged With DWI After Crash Into Pole On Shelter Island: PD
The pole snapped at the base, bringing down wires, police say.
SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a Shelter Island crash Sunday, police said.
According to Shelter Island Police, the incident took place at 8:05 p.m. when Mohamed Adil El Batji, 49, of New York, NY struck a utility pole. The pole snapped at its base, bringing down utility wires, police said.
El Batji was arrested and charged with DWI and moving from lane unsafely, police said. He was taken to headquarters for processing and held overnight for arraignment at Shelter Island Justice Court, police said.
