Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Utility Pole In Mattituck: PD

An officer followed fluid leaking from the vehicle and found the driver, who had fled the scene, police say.

MATTITUCK, NY —A Cutchogue man was arrested after he drove while intoxicated, crashed into a utility pole, and left the scene, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place on Monday at 1:43 a.m. on Legion Avenue in Mattituck.

An officer followed fluid leaking from the vehicle on Route 25 and found Victor Pirir Lopez, 52, standing outside the vehicle, which had significant front end damage, police said.

Pirir Lopez admitted to driving the vehicle, police said.

Pirir Lopez was found to be intoxicated; he was arrested, charged with DWI, first offense; leaving the scene of a crash with property damage; and aggravated DWI: per se, no prior, police said. He was transported to Southold police headquarters for processing, police said.
