Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Utility Pole: Police

SOUTHOLD, NY — A Greenport man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Wednesday night after he crashed into a utility pole, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, Jonathan Velado Gomez, 27, was arrested at 8:16 p.m. on Route 25 and charged with DWI, first offense, and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 of 1 percent, first offense, police said.

Gomez was driving a gray BMW sedan west near Port of Egypt Marina when he veered off the roadway, colliding with a Verizon utility pole, police said.

The Southold Fire Department responded but Gomez was not injured and required no medical attention, police said. Gomez was transported to Southold Town Police headquarters where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
