Man Charged With DWI After Southold Rollover Crash: Police

He rolled over and struck 2 parked vehicles before sliding west and hitting an oncoming car, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A Southold man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a rollover crash on Monday, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the crash took place on Route 25; Daniel Gornetzki, 36, was arrested and charged with DWI, first offense, as well as refusal to take a breath test, police said.

Gornetzki was heading west in a 2001 Hummer on Rt. 25 when he left the roadway, striking two parked vehicles on the north side, police said. The Hummer rolled over and began sliding west on Rt. 25, striking an oncoming 2021 Chevrolet; the driver of the Chevrolet was not injured, police said.

Gornetzki was found to be intoxicated and placed under arrest, police said. Gornetzki was taken to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation, treated, discharged, and then brought to Southold Town police headquarters where he was held for arraignment, police said.
