Man Charged With DWI Hit Mailboxes, Left Vehicle In Road: Cops
He left the scene on foot, police say.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A Cutchogue man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into mailboxes, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Thursday at 7:33 p.m. on Skunk Lane in Cutchogue. Daniel Scala, 24, was involved in a crash, striking multiple mailboxes and subsequently leaving his vehicle in the roadway, police said.
Scalia left the scene of the crash on foot, heading south on Skunk Lane; an officer located Scalia and determined he was the driver of the vehicle, police said. Scalia was transported back to the location of the crash, where he was administered standardized field sobriety testing with failing results, police said.

Scalia was placed under arrest, charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol, first offense, and driving while intoxicated, first offense, and transported to Southold Town Police headquarters for processing, police said.
