Man Charged With DWI Was Hanging Halfway Out Of Car On Road: Cops

He was passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle and was hanging out the driver's side door onto the shoulder of the road, police say.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — An intoxicated Coram man was found passed out behind the wheel and hanging halfway out the driver's side door of his vehicle in Cutchogue, police say.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on July 28 at 3 a.m. on Route 48 when Brian Gutierrez, 24, was seen passed out behind the wheel of a black 2019 Honda and hanging onto the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was stopped with the engine running along Rt. 48 in Cutchogue, police said.

Gutierrez was found to be intoxicated at the scene, arrested, and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said. He was transported to police headquarters, processed, and held for arraignment, police said.

Gutierrez was also found to be in possession of a vape pen containing marijuana oil while being processed at police headquarters, authorities said.
