Man Charged With DWI Was In A Running Car, Stopped In The Street: PD

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A Floral Park man was arrested in Cutchogue early Friday after he was caught intoxicated in his car, which was stopped in the middle of the road with the motor running, police said.

Derek Michalak, 48, was arrested at 12:37 a.m. on Depot Lane and charged with DWI, first offense, Southold Town police said.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel on Route 48 in Cutchogue, police said. Michalak was located inside the vehicle, which was stopped in the roadway; he was found in the driver's seat with the key in the ignition and the car running, police said.

After further investigation, Michalak was found to be intoxicated; he was placed under arrest and taken to Southold Police headquarters for processing, police said.
