Man Dies After LI Crash: Police

He was thrown from the vehicle and died from his injuries, police say.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A 38-year-old man died after a crash in Cutchogue early Sunday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place at 1:45 a.m. on Route 48, when a two-door, white 2019 Toyota ran off the roadway, struck a telephone pole, and ended up in the parking lot of the North Road Commons.

The driver, from Bethpage, had been thrown from the vehicle and was found lying in the parking lot, police said.

He was treated by Cutchogue Fire Department personnel and was transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

There was a reported temporary power outage as a result of the crash; PSEG responded and restored the power, police said.
