Man Dies After Shelter Island Fall: Police

SHELTER ISLAND, NY — Police have identified a man who died after a fall on Shelter Island as Steven William Dickerson, 68.

According to Shelter Island Police, Dickerson, of Shelter Island fell from a ladder on Monday at a residence. He was found beside the ladder, unconscious, taken to the Westmoreland airstrip, and airlifted in "extremely critical" condition to Stony Brook University Hospital's trauma center, where he died on Tuesday at 2:16 p.m., police said.

Dickerson had been working on the roof, repairing storm damage, police said.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office is continuing its investigation, police said; the accident is believed to be non-criminal in nature, police said.
