Man Drove ATV Drunk, Fled Police, Hid In Woods: Cops

He drove through the high school parking lot before hiding in Moore's Woods, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — A Greenport man was charged with driving an ATV while intoxicated and then trying to flee authorities and hiding in the woods, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Saturday at 4:54 a.m. on Route 25 in Greenport when Vincent Leone, 21, was driving an unregistered, uninsured ATV. Southold Police attempted to stop Leone and he fled on the ATV through the village, into the Greenport High School parking lot, onto Moore's Lane and eventually, hiding in Moore's Woods, police said.

Officers located Leone and determined that he was intoxicated; Leone was placed under arrest, transported to Southold Town Police headquarters and held for arraignment at Southold Town Justice Court, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, aggravated DWI, no prior, operating an unregistered vehicle, unlicensed operator, inadequate lights, operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and failing to stop at a stop sign, police said.
