Man Rescued From Water Off Shelter Island
The man had been transporting the "out of control" vessel to a marina to be stored for the winter, police say.

SHELTER ISLAND, NY —A Cutchogue man was rescued from the water off Shelter Island Friday, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 9:51 a.m. at Sunset Beach when David Javier, 27, was rescued.
Authorities received a call from the Shelter Island Ferry vessel Menantic of a boat traveling in circles with a person in the water off of Sunset Beach, Shelter Island, police said.

The ferry vessel, captained by Lance Willumsen, 53, of Shelter Island, responded to the scene and with the assistance of mates Jared Gibbs, 46, Jason Brewer, 30, and Dennis Raffelock, 70, all of Shelter Island, they retrieved Javier from the water, police said.
The ferry vessel transported Javier to Greenport where Greenport Fire Department Rescue treated Javier for cold exposure and transported him to Eastern Long Island Hospital, police said.

Javier, an employee of Southold Marine Center, was transporting the vessel to Southold Marine Center to be hauled for the winter, police said.
Southold Police Department marine units and Sea Tow responded and retrieved the out of control vessel, police said.
