Man Saved After Near-Drowning On North Fork: Police

His wife called police, believing her husband, who was not breathing, had drowned, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — A man was saved after a near-drowning in Greenport Tuesday morning, police said.

According to Southold Town police, a 911 call came in at 9:53 a.m. from a woman who said her husband had drowned in the waters off of Gull Pond/ Norman E. Klipp Marine Park beach.

Responding officers found that the man had been dragged from the water not breathing and onto the beach; a Stony Brook University Hospital paramedic was performing CPR, police said. The man was transported to Stony Brook University Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, where he was stabilized and eventually transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
