Man Sells Crack With Boy, 8, In Car; Driver Hits Police Car: Cops

The boy was in the car during the alleged drug sale and while the driver hit a cop car when trying to flee, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Two men trying to flee a drug bust in Riverhead hit a police car — and had a little boy, 8, in the vehicle, authorities said.

The passenger in the car was caught with crack, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place on Monday when the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office was conducting an investigation into alleged illegal narcotic sales at the Greenview Inn, located at 1433 West Main Street.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested, police said: Randy E. Smith, 33, was arrested and charged with third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, intent to sell, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in excess of a half ounce, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Johnee Miles, 24, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second degree reckless endangerment, police said.

During the arrest, the driver, Miles, struck an unmarked police vehicle while attempting to flee, police said.

Miles was issued an appearance ticket and Smith remains in custody awaiting arraignment, police said.
