LI Man Shoots Teen Who Knocked On His Door: Police

He "recklessly" shot the teen in the arm after he knocked on his front and rear door a few times, police said.

LAUREL, NY — A Laurel man shot a 15-year-old in the arm Thursday night after the teen knocked on his door a few times and ran away, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at 9:04 p.m. on Peconic Bay Boulevard in Laurel. James Moshier, 64, was arrested by detectives and charged with second-degree assault, seriously injuring a child with a weapon, authorities said.

Police said Moshier "recklessly" shot the teen in the arm after he knocked on the front and rear door of his residence a few times throughout the night and ran away. When the teen knocked on the rear door of the residence for the third time, Moshier shot through a glass door with a shotgun and struck him in the arm, police said.

The teen was wounded in his right upper arm, treated by Mattituck Fire Department, and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Moshier was taken to Southold police headquarters where he was arrested and held for arraignment.
