Man Thrown From Motorcycle In North Fork Crash Charged With DWI: PD
The crash took place early Wednesday, police say.
NORTH FORK, NY — A Mattituck man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after being thrown from his motorcycle and seriously injured early Wednesday, police said.
According to Southold Town police, the crash took place at 3:10 a.m. on Route 48 in Southold. Daniel Penny, 24, of Mattituck, was arrested and charged with DWI, first offense, police said.
Penny was involved in the single-vehicle crash while driving a red 2018 Ducati motorcycle, police said. He was heading west on Route 48 in Southold when he struck a mailbox, then a parked Mazda CX-9, police said.

He was ejected from the motorcycle upon crashing into the rear of the parked Mazda and sustained an open wound to his right knee, police said.
Penny had bloodshot, glassy eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, police said.

He was placed under arrest, charged with DWI, and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police aviation to be treated for his injuries, police said.
He was later released from police custody on a field appearance ticket to return to Southold Town justice court on a later date, police said.
