March 27th in a North Fork of Long Island actor's -{&}- singer's take

World Theatre Day is March 27th and is an international observance.

When I attended IONA College on North Avenue in New Rochelle {NOT Idiots on North Avenue ~ IONA College is now IONA University ~ Mind you... New Rochelle was the setting for the DICK VAN DYKE SHOW - -PLUS- - New Rochelle was where the Smith Corona typewriter epidemic started... YES FOLKS a pun -(!)- the CORONA virus or COVID-19 epidemic} majoring in Speech & Dramatic Arts I was a member of the IONA College Vocal Ensemble in the bass section. Hugh Berberich was an instructor at IONA who led the Vocal Ensemble and he was explicit in reminding us that THEATRE represents a building and THEATER is the study of the craft by students. I bring this up since World Theatre Day should be spelled World Theater Day so one is not confused that buildings are ALL that is involved ~ ONLY. There are playwrights, directors, sets, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. {As YUL BRYNNER would say from THE KING AND I -( !!! )-}

As wikipedia reminds the reader: "World Theatre Day was initiated in 1962
by the International Theatre Institute (ITI)." Various national and international theater {MY SPELLING{ events are organized to mark this occasion. One of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre Day International
Message through which at the invitation of ITI, a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of THEATER and a Culture of Peace. France's JEAN COCTEAU wrote the first World Theatre Day International Message in 1962. wikipedia pursued to inform us that It was first in Helsinki, and then in Vienna at the 9th World Congress of the ITI in June 1961 that President Arvi Kivimaa proposed on behalf of the Finnish Centre of the International Theatre Institute that a World Theatre Day be instituted. The proposal, backed by the Scandinavian centres, was carried with acclamation.[2]
