Mattituck-Cutchogue BOE Appoints New Superintendent

"My goal is to ensure that all students have the tools and resources needed to achieve their fullest potential."

MATTITUCK, NY — As Mattituck-Cutchogue School Superintendent Dr. Anne Smith prepares to retire, leaving a long legacy of caring dedication to the students whose paths she's helped to guide, the torch was passed on Thursday as the board of education appointed her successor.

The BOE unanimously gave the nod to Jill M. Gierasch as superintendent of schools, effective Aug. 1.

“Appointing a superintendent is one of the most important responsibilities of a board of education,” said Board President Charles Anderson. “After interviewing numerous highly qualified candidates throughout an extensive and thorough search process, we are confident Jill Gierasch possesses the professional qualifications, experience, vision and leadership skills the board and our community are looking for as we move our students and school district to a higher level of success.”

She also served as an elementary school teacher in the Bayport-Blue Point School District, an elementary school assistant principal in the Three Village Central School District, and an elementary school principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, staff development and assessment, for grades K through 5, in the Sachem Central School District, a release said.

In 2009, Ms. Gierasch joined the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction until 2015, when she was appointed to her current position as deputy superintendent.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Board of Education for their support and the confidence they have shown in me,” Gierasch said. “I am honored and so pleased to have an opportunity to work in such an amazing school district and community.

Gierasch said she looks forward to getting to know and work with the board, administrators, staff, students, parents, and community residents "as we focus on the academic, social and emotional growth of all students. My goal is to ensure that all students have the tools and resources needed to achieve their fullest potential.”
