Mattituck Jr.-Sr. High School earned a Gold distinction for developing a college-bound culture and one that provides opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximize college-readiness.

Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation Ilana C. Finnegan explained that Mattituck Jr.-Sr. High School offers a comprehensive AP program that provides students with access to rigorous, college-level coursework while supporting student choice and academic growth.

Students may enroll in 16 AP courses, including AP Seminar, AP Research, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature, AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Psychology, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Art and Design.

The AP Seminar and AP Research sequence also provides students the opportunity to earn the AP Capstone Diploma.

"Students are encouraged — but not limited by formal criteria — to enroll in AP courses, allowing them to self-select or challenge themselves based on interest and readiness, including students seeking exposure to pre-college academic rigor," Finnegan said. "Notably, while overall school enrollment has declined, participation in AP coursework has continued to increase in the number of students and the demographics represented."

Superintendent of School Shawn C. Petretti congratulated the students and faculty for this outstanding academic honor.

"This recognition highlights our students’ hard work and determination to challenge themselves through rigorous coursework, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievement," Petretti said.
