Mermaids, Pirates Delight At 33rd Greenport Maritime Festival: Photos

GREENPORT, NY — Mermaids and pirates filled the streets of Greenport Saturday as the 33rd Annual Maritime Festival kicked off in the village.

Presented by the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation, the festival takes place through Sunday, with highlights including the roaming Sea Shanties and the Tall Ship Amistad, which will be docked in the harbor.

The Land & Sea Gala, which took place Friday, honored the 2022 grand marshals Elizabeth Peeples and Stefanie Bassett, the co-owners of Little Ram Oyster Co.

On Sunday, the Maritime Festival is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features local craft food and beverage vendors, food trucks, live music, wine and beer tastings, oyster tastings and vendors. Free arts and crafts and treasure chest for the kids can found in Captain Kidd’s Alley in Mitchell Park.

The Merry Merfolk Parade took place Saturday, as well as a merfolk contest, organized by Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program and The Sirens’ Song Art Studio. The Saints Anargyroi, Taxiarchis and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church of Greenport held a procession and a parade to “Bless the Long Island Waters," as they do yearly.

A variety of maritime events continues on Sunday: In addition to a snapper contest for kids, the drawing for the Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital's Dream Green fundraiser will take place, with a top prize of $50,000. Tickets will be available all weekend prior to the drawing.
