Minor Injuries In 2-Car Crash On North Fork: Cops

The roadway was closed for about 45 minutes while cleanup commenced, police say.

PECONIC, NY — One person was treated for minor injuries after a two-car crash in Peconic on Friday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, officers responded to the crash, which took place at the intersection of Rt. 48 and Peconic Lane at 4:22 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found that both vehicles, which had collided in the eastbound lanes, had traveled after the impact onto the shoulder of the westbound lanes, police said.

The driver of one vehicle was transported by Southold Fire Department rescue to Eastern Long Island Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

An investigation revealed that the driver of a pickup truck heading west on Rt. 48 was making a left turn onto Peconic Lane and struck a pickup that was heading eastbound on Rt. 48, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the roadway remained closed for about 45 minutes during rescue and clean-up efforts, police said.
