~ 'Mums the Word ~ Yes… It’s That Season… Thanksgiving ~

According to the issue dated November 18, 1937 of The Long Island Traveler I saw an advertisement:
"Thanksgiving Mums
Big Handsome Yellow, Bronze, Red, Pink, Orchid and
White Mums, The VERY THING for your own festive board
at the FAMILY REUNION, or to instruct US to send your
HOSTESS.
We have the finest, largest 'mums we ever had, and the most
ample supply. You are cordially invited to call and view them
without obligation.
Also a full line of POMPON {"a chrysanthemum or dahlia with small rounded flower heads"} and single 'mums in all colors.
New crop of CARNATIONS, including Giant Scarlet, Robert
Allwood. ROSES. SNAPDRAGONS.
Pot Plants Potted Chrysanthemums in full
bloom; Ferns, Cyclamen, Xmas {stet}
Begonias, Primroses, Cherries,

According to the entry on page 113 in the volume titled Greenport, Yesterday and Today and The Diary of a Country Newspaper by Elsie Knapp Corwin in collaboration with her husband Frederick Langton Corwin: "... Another old landmark, Raynor's Greenhouae and home, was purchased by Mr. George Simpson, proprietor of Hoppy's Dry Cleaning establishment. This was torn down and later in the year a new building was opened for services..."

Other entries with no printed date from this book included page 120:

"The old laundry building on Carpenter Street was sold to Hoppy's Dry Cleaners and equipment installed for a new laundry."

AND page 121:

"The Kalin Florist building and Van Popering hardware store was enlarged."
