New Firefighting Exhibit at Southold Historical Museum
Explores the history of firefighting in Southold

“Answering the Call: The History of Southold Fire Department”, Southold
Historical Museum’s 2023 summer exhibition, will be on display at the Museum’s Maple Lane
Complex weekends through Sept. 17.
This year’s exhibition explores an institution that has been essential to the safety and protection of the Southold community for more than 135 years.
Prior to the creation of a consolidated Fire Department in 1937, there were three companies
with their own districts in Southold. The exhibition explores their history that is the foundation
of today’s Southold Fire Department. In addition to photos of firehouses, firefighters, and
buildings that were destroyed by fire, there are pins, badges, a fire chief cap, and other artifacts
on display. Visitors will also learn about the many ways that Southold Fire Department engages
with the community today, including rescues, education, and prevention.

combined her passion for research with her creative talents to curate an excellent exhibition.
You don’t have to be a firefighter to be impressed by her work!”
