North Fork Elementary School Students Give Back For Thanksgiving

The young students gave back in a big way, donating food to CAST for Thanksgiving feasts shared by families facing food insecurity.

NORTH FORK, NY — Even the youngest students learned a big lesson about giving back this holiday season. The Student Leadership Council at Cutchogue East Elementary School, in the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District, wanted to bring the spirit of Thanksgiving to local families.

The council, under advisers special education teacher Katie Killeen and music teacher Bryan Bowie, is comprised of several students in grades 5 to 6.

In a schoolwide symbol of sharing, sttudents in all grade levels were invited to participate in a Thanksgiving food drive. Each grade level donated different foods, including corn bread mix, stuffing, canned vegetables and canned cranberry sauce.

Thanks to the "amazing generosity of students, their families and staff", a large donation of food was given to the CAST Center for Advocacy, Support and Transformation this season, the district said.
